Packing Guide

What to bring to the Sachsenring in mid-July

Mid-July Weather

24°C

Average high (13°C lows)

~15 rainy days

Afternoon thunderstorms common

UV 5

Moderate UV — sunscreen needed

Essentials — Do Not Forget

Sunscreen (SPF 30+)

Mid-July UV index averages 5 (moderate) in the region. You will be outside for 6-8 hours on exposed hillsides. Reapply at midday.

Hat or cap

Limited shade on grandstands and GA hillsides. A hat keeps the sun off and helps on hot afternoons.

Rain jacket or poncho

July in Saxony brings afternoon thunderstorms. One moment of sun, the next a downpour. A packable rain layer is essential.

Refillable water bottle (plastic)

Stay hydrated in the summer heat. Check bag policy — caps may be removed at the gate. A sport-top bottle avoids this issue.

Comfortable walking shoes with grip

The circuit terrain is hilly with grass, gravel, and steep paths between viewing areas. Flat shoes slip on wet hillsides.

Power bank

Phone signal weakens on race day. Your phone works harder searching for a connection, draining battery fast.

Printed ticket

Have a paper copy as backup. Mobile tickets work but printed versions avoid any risk of a flat battery or failed scan at the gate.

Cash (€50-100)

Food stalls, parking, and many vendors prefer cash. Germany uses more cash than most European countries. Do not assume card works everywhere.

Ear protection

MotoGP bikes are genuinely loud — louder than most people expect. Foam earplugs cost €1 and protect your hearing over a full day of racing.

Nice to Have

Camping chair (GA areas only)

If you are in general admission, a lightweight folding chair makes the day much more comfortable on the hillsides.

Small binoculars

Useful for watching distant corners and identifying rider numbers across the compact layout.

Warm layer for mornings

Mornings can be 14-16°C before the afternoon sun builds. A hoodie or light fleece for the early sessions.

Snacks

Bring energy bars, sandwiches, or fruit. Circuit food is available but queues build at peak times.

Seat cushion

Grandstand seats are hard plastic or metal. A thin cushion makes a long day much more comfortable.

Prohibited Items

These will be confiscated at the security check. Do not bring:

  • Glass containers
  • Metal containers
  • Alcohol (to be brought inside the circuit)
  • Drones and remote-controlled devices
  • Fireworks, pyrotechnics, and flares
  • Weapons and sharp objects
  • Large umbrellas, tents, and shelters (in viewing areas)
  • Professional cameras with detachable lenses
  • Animals (except registered assistance dogs)
  • Laser pointers
