Bag Policy and Security at the MotoGP Grand Prix of Germany, Sachsenring

Grand Prix of Germany

Bag Policy & Security

What you can and cannot bring into the Sachsenring

Prohibited items are confiscated — not stored

The circuit has no left-luggage facility at the gate. If you bring a prohibited item, it is taken and not returned. Leave anything borderline at your hotel, car, or campsite.

Prohibited Items

Glass containers and cans

Glass bottles, jars, and metal cans will be confiscated at the gate.

Metal containers

Metal water bottles, flasks, and thermoses are not permitted. Beverages must be in unbreakable (plastic) containers.

Spirits and alcoholic beverages

Outside alcohol is prohibited inside the circuit. Beer and drinks are sold by vendors inside.

Drones and remote-controlled devices

Strictly prohibited. Will be confiscated and you may be refused entry.

Weapons, fireworks, flares, pyrotechnics

Results in confiscation and immediate removal from the event.

Large umbrellas, tents, shelters

Small collapsible umbrellas are fine. Large parasols and pop-up shelters are not allowed in viewing areas.

Political or offensive banners

Team flags and racing banners are welcome. Political or offensive content is refused.

Animals (except registered assistance dogs)

Service animals are permitted with documentation.

Sharp objects or tools

Multi-tools, knives, and similar items are refused.

Professional cameras with detachable lenses

Standard cameras and smartphones are fine. Professional DSLR/mirrorless with interchangeable lenses may be refused.

Laser pointers

Dangerous to riders and will be confiscated immediately.

Permitted Items

Small backpack or bag

Any bag that can be easily searched by security. Keep it compact.

Plastic water bottle

Caps may be removed at the gate depending on the year. A sport-top bottle avoids this issue.

Non-alcoholic food and snacks

Sandwiches, energy bars, fruit. Keep quantities reasonable for personal consumption.

Small collapsible umbrella

Hand-held compact umbrella only. July thunderstorms are common — you will want this.

Portable phone charger / power bank

Permitted. Charge up before you go — phone signal is poor on race day and drains battery.

Folding seat or cushion (GA areas only)

Lightweight foldable chairs are allowed in general admission areas. Not in grandstands.

Sunscreen

Pump or lotion sunscreen is fine. Mid-July sun is strong on exposed hillsides.

Binoculars

Personal binoculars are permitted. Useful for watching across the compact circuit.

Standard camera (no detachable lens)

Point-and-shoot and fixed-lens cameras are fine.

Medication with documentation

Carry prescription medication with documentation to avoid delays at security.

What Happens at the Gate

1

Queue for security check

Every person passes through a security check. The queue builds on race day — arrive early to reduce waiting. Allow an extra 15-20 minutes for security on Sunday.

2

Open your bag for inspection

Security staff check your bag. Be cooperative and open all compartments. Prohibited items are confiscated.

3

Prohibited items are confiscated — not stored

There is no left-luggage facility at the gate. Anything prohibited is taken and not returned. Leave prohibited items at your hotel, car, or campsite.

4

Bottle caps may be removed

Depending on the year, plastic bottle caps may be removed at the gate. A sport-top bottle avoids this complication entirely.

5

Ticket scan

After the bag check, your ticket is scanned. Have it ready — printed or digital. A printed ticket is recommended as backup.
