Airports
~100 km / 1h 15min drive
Pros: Major international hub with flights from across Europe and beyond. The M7 motorway makes the drive straightforward.
Cons: No direct public transport to the circuit. You need a car, transfer, or train + shuttle combination.
~80 km / 1h drive
Pros: Closer to the Lake Balaton region.
Cons: Very limited flights — mostly seasonal charters from Germany and Scandinavia. Not a reliable option for most travellers.
~260 km / 2h 45min drive
Pros: Huge international hub. Good fallback if Budapest flights are expensive or unavailable.
Cons: Long drive through Austria into Hungary. Only makes sense if you are combining with an Austria visit.
Getting to the Circuit
Driving (Recommended)
- — From Budapest: M7 motorway southwest toward Lake Balaton, exit near Balatonkenese/Balatonfőkajár
- — Journey time: ~1h 15min from Budapest without traffic
- — E-matrica (motorway vignette) required — buy at ematrica.hu or any petrol station. 10-day pass: ~4,780 HUF (~€12)
- — Expect heavy congestion on the last 10-15 km on race day morning
- — Car rental available at Budapest airport — book early for race weekend
Train + Shuttle
- — MÁV trains from Budapest Déli (South) station to Balatonkenese-Balatonvilágos
- — Journey time: ~1h 20min–1h 40min
- — Shuttle services from the station to the circuit are expected on race days
- — Book train tickets at mavcsoport.hu — race weekend trains will be busy
- — Balatonkenese station is ~5-8 km from the circuit
Shuttle from Budapest
- — Dedicated race-day shuttles from Budapest are likely to be organised by the promoter
- — Check the official MotoGP and Balaton Park Circuit websites closer to the event
- — Expect shuttles from Budapest Déli or Kelenföld station
- — This is a debut event — shuttle details may be confirmed late
Taxi / Bolt
- — Bolt is more widely used than Uber in Hungary outside Budapest
- — A Bolt from Budapest airport to the circuit area costs roughly 25,000–35,000 HUF (~€65–90)
- — Availability after the race will be extremely limited — do not rely on ride-hailing to leave
- — Pre-arrange a return pickup if you plan to use a taxi or transfer service
Post-Race Exit Strategy
The circuit feeds onto secondary two-lane roads before reaching the M7 motorway. With tens of thousands of fans leaving at once, expect 1-2+ hours to clear the area after the MotoGP race.
- —Option A: Leave before the podium. You will miss the celebration but avoid the worst of the exit crush.
- —Option B: Stay for 60-90 minutes after the race. Browse merchandise, soak in the atmosphere, then leave once the initial wave has cleared.
- —As a debut event, exit management will be untested at full capacity. Be prepared for longer-than-expected delays.
- —If taking a train, check the timetable for the last departure from Balatonkenese — do not assume late services will be added.
Where to Stay
Balatonfüred
~20 km / 25 min driveThe main town on the northern shore. Good hotel selection, lakefront promenade, restaurants, and wine bars. Best all-round base for the race weekend.
Balatonkenese / Balatonakarattya
~5-8 km / 10 min driveClosest towns to the circuit. Limited hotel capacity but the shortest commute. Small lakeside villages — quiet outside race weekend.
Veszprém
~25 km / 25 min driveProper city with the most hotel and restaurant options in the region. Castle quarter, museums, good nightlife. Slightly inland but well connected.
Siófok (south shore)
~40 km / 40 min driveThe party capital of Lake Balaton. Plenty of hotels and nightlife, but the commute across the lake adds up over three days.
Budapest
~100 km / 1h 15min driveEndless options and world-class nightlife, but the daily commute is a significant commitment. Best if you want to combine the race with a Budapest city break.
