Bag Policy and Security for the MotoGP British Grand Prix at Silverstone

Grand Prix of Great Britain

Bag Policy & Security

What you can and cannot bring into Silverstone

Confirm exact bag size limits and alcohol rules before you travel

Silverstone's specific bag size limit and its policy on outside alcohol are set by the circuit and can change year to year — check silverstone.co.uk/security close to your travel date rather than relying on last year's rules. Prohibited items are confiscated at the gate, not stored, so leave anything borderline at your accommodation, car, or campsite.

Prohibited Items

Glass containers — any size

Standard practice at every major UK outdoor event and enforced at the gate.

Drones and remote aircraft

Prohibited near the circuit airspace. Confiscation is likely and you may be refused entry.

Weapons, fireworks, flares, pyrotechnics

Confiscation and removal from the event.

Large umbrellas, tents, or pop-up shelters

A small collapsible umbrella is generally fine; a full shelter or gazebo is not.

Animals (except registered assistance dogs)

Assistance animals with documentation are permitted.

Sharp objects or tools

Multi-tools, knives, and similar items are refused.

Scooters, skateboards, roller skates

Not permitted inside the circuit grounds.

Permitted Items

Small backpack or day bag

Any bag that can be easily searched by security. Keep it compact to speed up the gate process.

Plastic water bottle

Refillable plastic bottles are typically permitted at UK outdoor events, though caps or lids can be treated differently by different venues — check current guidance close to the date.

Personal food and snacks

Sandwiches, energy bars, fruit — bring plastic, not glass or metal containers.

Small collapsible umbrella

Given how likely rain is here, a compact hand-held umbrella is worth carrying.

Portable phone charger / power bank

Personal power banks are permitted.

Folding seat or cushion (GA areas only)

Lightweight foldable chairs are commonly allowed in general admission areas, not in grandstands — confirm before you pack one.

Sunscreen

Any format. Worth carrying even on a forecast-rain day.

Binoculars

Personal binoculars are permitted. Useful for a large, flat circuit like Silverstone.

What Happens at the Gate

1

Queue for security check

Every person passes through security before entering. Queues build fastest on race day — arrive early and allow extra time, especially given the 6:30 AM Sunday gate opening.

2

Open your bag for inspection

Security staff check all bags. Open all compartments and be cooperative — it moves the queue faster for everyone behind you too.

3

Prohibited items are confiscated, not stored

There is no left-luggage facility at the gate. Anything prohibited is taken and not returned. Leave borderline items at your accommodation, car, or campsite.

4

Ticket scan

Have your ticket ready — mobile or printed. Given how congested phone signal gets on site, a printed or screenshotted backup is worth having.

5

Enter and find your area

Follow signs to your grandstand or GA area. Silverstone is a large circuit — see the grandstands guide for how far apart the main viewing areas are.
