Bag Policy and Security at the MotoGP Grand Prix of Austria at the Red Bull Ring

Grand Prix of Austria

Bag Policy & Security

What you can and cannot bring into the Red Bull Ring

No alcohol, no bulky bags in grandstands

The two rules that catch first-timers out most: alcoholic beverages cannot be brought in (buy on-site instead), and bulky bags — large backpacks, suitcases, sports bags — are not allowed into the grandstands. No exact bag size in centimetres was confirmed in research, so pack a reasonably sized bag rather than assume a specific figure.

Prohibited Items

Alcoholic beverages

Cannot be brought in — buy on-site instead.

Fireworks, pyrotechnics, or smoke bombs

Confiscated and grounds for refused entry.

Glass bottles

Confiscated at the gate — bring plastic, aluminium, or a thermos instead.

Poles or sticks

Standard security refusal.

Large umbrellas — grandstands only restricted

Umbrellas are allowed in standing/general admission areas, but not in grandstands.

Weapons

Standard security refusal.

Gas canisters

Not permitted, including small camping-stove canisters.

Flammable or corrosive substances

Confiscated at the gate.

Bicycles, skateboards, scooters, or segways

Not permitted inside the circuit grounds — though the circuit does have a dedicated motorcycle parking area with paid gear lockers (around €15/day or €35/weekend) for those riding in.

Animals

No confirmed exception for assistance animals in the sources checked — check directly with the circuit before travelling with one.

Permitted Items

Plastic bottles and cans, personal-use quantities

Allowed for personal consumption — not for reselling or large-batch quantities.

Aluminium or thermos bottles, up to 1.5 litres

Stanley-style insulated bottles are explicitly allowed up to 1.5 litres.

Standard cameras and camcorders

Permitted for personal, non-commercial use.

Phones

Standard personal photography and video use is fine.

What Happens at the Gate

1

Bags are checked at circuit entrances

There is no direct train to the circuit, so most fans arrive via the free Knittelfeld or Judenburg shuttle, or drive in using the free parking. Build the security queue into your morning alongside whichever transfer you're using.

2

Bulky bags are turned away from grandstands

Large backpacks, suitcases, and sports bags are not allowed into the grandstands and must fit within the ticketed area's storage. No exact size-in-centimetres limit was confirmed — pack a reasonably sized bag rather than assume a specific figure.

3

Alcohol and glass are confiscated

The two rules most likely to catch first-timers out: no alcohol brought in from outside (it's available on-site), and no glass containers of any kind — bring plastic, aluminium, or a thermos instead.
